A freelance fiddle performer, teacher and recording artist from Brantford, Ontario, Katie Korfmann is full of passion for music.
As a young child, she started playing classical violin with the Suzuki Method at the age of 5 years old. Within a few years, she was fully immersed in fiddle music and it was from then on that she could not put the instrument down!
Growing up, Katie won multiple fiddle contests around Southern Ontario, awards from the Brantford Kiwanis Music Festival, and was featured in spotlight performances. She started performing professionally at the age of 12 and has never looked back!
Her uncle (Jim Hopkins) was a well known instrument luthier and musician who was a huge inspiration on Katies musical upbringing. Jim introduced her to the world of country/bluegrass where she fell involve with backing up bands and getting to use her own creativity. Although, Katie has a wide range of musical roots stemming from bluegrass, country, old time and east coast fiddling, she also enjoys branching out into many other genres such as rock, pop and blues.
Since the age of 15, Katie has been in demand for teaching music. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, running a business was always a goal of hers. Over the years, Katie has grown her music studio and now operates a successful business with nine of her teachers.
Music in the Fields, Festival of Friends, Boothill Jamboree, Grape and Wine Festival are just a few places she has performed alongside such acts as The Wilkinson’s, Billy Currington, Cold Creek Country, James Barker Band, Kim Mitchell and more.
Katie is always excited for new freelance opportunities and collaborations so that she can share her music and passion with more audiences.
